Of the many novels about anorexia, this is one of the most chilling. It focuses on dread and hopelessness and isolation. We can see Lia both fighting (replacing ‘bad thought’) and giving in to her negativity, and her internal conflict makes this a scarily realistic account of what it can be like to suffer from an eating disorder.
